Scripts

Published

The other night we had a patient who altered her narc script from 15 to 150. The pharmacy called to let us know that they would be calling the police (it's a felony), but the doctor told them go ahead and give her 5 pills because he felt sorry for her....but then she and her family members made a number of phone calls to the ER demanding more medication "because of the horrible pain". We didn't even let them talk to the ER doctor (partly because we aren't suppose to and because we were slammed with codes, etc) , told them to call their PCP the next day.

Has this happened to you?

My ex-BIL stole a script pad from a doc during a visit for an employment phyisical. He wrote about a dozen scripts for narcs, think it was Percocet and Methadone. He was caught and served three years in prison, my SIL divorced him, and he he now is in a hallf way house in Florida. In Ohio we took this crime seriously and he paid for this. The doctor whom he stole it from didn't think it was a waste of time to go to court, he felt it was his duty to help d/t my BIL needed to get caught. IT IS A CRIME.:nono:

Sure can, Magikgirl. Happened just a few months ago, Walmart called the ED where I work to ask the doc why he ordered a script in a bizarre manner. Doc said he didn't. Walmart and the Doc called the cops. Guy got locked up.

I always write out the quantity of the drug on allscripts (controlled or not) and I never give more than 3 days supply of a narcotic (I know I'm stingy- that's what my collaborating MD says !:D ). My DEA number is not printed on my script pads- I write it in. So far I've not had any problems except angry patients because I won't supply the with their daily narcotic supply!!
