Undergraduate
Traditional Four Year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Graduates are eligible to take the licensing examination (NCLEX) for professional Registered Nurses. After completing the RN licensure, our nurses have gone on to lead as clinicians, researchers, educators, and administrators.
RN to BSN Online
The RN-BSN is an attractive option for nurses who want to receive their degree by completing is solely online. The program requires nurses who have at least a 2.75 GPA in nursing courses and an overall 2.75 GPA to be accepted into the program as well as bringing their transfer credits from an ACEN or NLN CNEA-accredited nursing program.
Clinicals are offered at a healthcare facility near the student. Villanova offers flexible scheduling and an opportunity to network with distinguished faculty and RN students.
When completing the BSN program, the core values of becoming a professional who is enriched by a values-based community, an inspiration through global perspective and becoming a student engaged in the research processes are the focus for all of the courses offered at Villanova.
BSN - Adult and Traditional Transfer Students
At Villanova there is a program for students who have completed the prerequisite courses to be able to begin the upper-level nursing courses.
Many students have decided to do a career change into the world of nursing. Another option available is for the individual who already holds a bachelor's degree in another field and wishes to become a nurse.
Graduate
After completing the challenging BSN degree, many nurses want to go on and achieve a graduate level degree. At Villanova University College of Nursing the options to receive a master's degree, post-master's certificate, DNP or PhD are options for you.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) & Post-Master's
The Master's and Post-Master's programs at the University of Villanova have different tracks/specialties available including:
- Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner
- Family Nurse Practitioner
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
- Nursing Education
After completing the master's degree level, students are prepared to sit for the certification examinations of their selected track and/or specialty.
At Villanova, our faculty members are available to challenge and mentor each student along the way, preparing them for the career they desire.
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
The DNP degree at Villanova University College of Nursing is a full-time option stretching over five consecutive semesters and part-time option over eight semesters. The online classes are offered two nights a week (Tuesday and Thursday). Programs begin in the Summer with an on-campus seminar. Students will continue to meet on campus in the fall and in the Spring (one meeting each) and then one week in the following Summer. The program is 32 credit hours.
The goal of the DNP program is to prepare Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN), including Nurse Practitioners (NP), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA), Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), and Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM) as well as nurse administrators who possess advanced knowledge in evidence based practice with a focus on innovative nursing practice in healthcare.
Nurse Anesthesia - DNP
Villanova University College of Nursing, in collaboration with Crozer-Chester Medical Center, offers a program to educate Nurse Anesthetists in the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.
Applicants with an MSN can enroll in the Nurse Anesthesia DNP program and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis for course and/or credit transfer.
Information (not all inclusive)
DNP-NA Cohorts begin each January. The application deadline for the Cohort beginning in January of 2021 is February 1, 2019. Completed applications, including all required supporting documentation, will be reviewed by the DNP-NA Admissions Committee and selected applicants will be invited to interview. Interviews will be conducted in April of 2019.
Graduates are eligible to take the National Certification Exam (NCE) administered by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) to be certified in every state as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD)
The focus of the PhD program at the University of Villanova is to prepare educators and scholars who will go on to teach nursing students. The curriculum is offered in the fall and Spring semesters online and on campus. A non-distance learning option is available for international students. The course is 51 credits.
Accreditation and Approval
Crozer-Chester Medical Center/Villanova University Nurse Anesthesia Program is fully accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA). The entry to practice Doctor of Nursing Practice - Nurse Anesthesia (DNP-NA) degree program has been approved by COA.
The BSN, MSN, and DNP programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Villanova University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
The College of Nursing is approved by the State Board of Nursing of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
