The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), a public institution, was founded in 1891. The Women's College of the University of North Carolina established the College of Nursing in 1957.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
BSN Pre-Licensure
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is for those who want to become registered nurses in four years, plus one Summer term.
The curriculum consists of general education courses, core nursing courses, and elective courses. Graduates must earn a total of 122 semester hours to complete the BSN program.
Admission (not all inclusive)
- GPA 3.0 or higher
- Incoming freshmen must have either SAT Critical Reading score at least 500 & SAT Mathematics score at least 500 or ACT Composite score at least 21
- Incoming transfer and second-degree students must have a transfer GPA of 3.0 or greater
- The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam
BSN as Second Degree
The BSN as a second degree program is designed for students who would like to complete a BSN degree in two years (one Summer and 4 semesters). Those who hold a bachelor's degree in another field are able to have their general education courses waived, therefore making the term shorter. Students are encouraged to work as CNAs during the Summer between their junior and senior years.
RN to BSN
The RN-BSN program is a part time program that can be completed in three semesters.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are all courses offered online that I may need?
The UNCG program is not an online program. There are classes taught online, but also face-to-face, making the program a hybrid model of learning. The classes are taught once a week for four hours, and credit for two courses is earned during the one day a week.
Will I have to complete clinicals?
The program does consist of clinical components in the 400-level courses.
Veterans Access Program-VAP
In 2015, the UNCG School of Nursing launched the Veteran Access Program (VAP) for Nurses. The program is funded by a HRSA grant offering medically trained veterans access and support to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
Applicants to the VAP program include:
- Armed Forces Veterans from any branch, including past service in the Reserves or National Guard who have military health experience or training
- Persons who served as RNs, nursing assistants, medics, LPN/PNs, or other similar positions
- Any applicant who has a Department of Defense designation as a Veteran on their DD-214

The three areas include Nursing, Nursing Education, and Nursing Administration. All courses are offered online.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
Designed for students who complete advanced specialties in Nursing Administration and Nursing Education leading to the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree. The programs are only offered online and designed for the working nurse. The MSN/MBA degree in Health Management jointly with the UNCG Bryan School of Business and Economics is also offered. Courses include a mix of online curriculum and on campus programs.

Post-BSN AGNP
Post BSN program that is 73 credit hours over 8 semesters, web-enhanced executive format courses. Online courses are campus-based clinical courses and seminars with state-of-the-art simulation lab.
Post-BSN Nurse Anesthesia Program
The DNP program for Nurse Anesthesia is offered through UNGC School of Nursing in collaboration with the Raleigh School of Nurse Anesthesia. The post-BSN programs includes 107 credit hours over 3 years, delivered in a web-enhanced executive format, online, campus-based clinical courses, and state-of-the-art simulation labs.
Post-MSN Nurse Anesthesia Concentration
- 32 credit hours over 5 semesters
- Project hours are based on national certification and clinical hours from MSN program
- Web-enhanced executive format courses
- 30 semester hours are minimally required for this degree
