    The University of Memphis (UofM) was founded in 1912 in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1967, the Loewenberg College of Nursing (LCON) opened as part of UofM.

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

    The BSN program at the Loewenberg College of Nursing consists of a five-semester, full-time program offered at the Lambuth Campus. Summer terms are not included in this program, but are available for University of Memphis pre-nursing majors and transfer students.

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN)

    For current RNs the LCON offers an accessible, flexible and affordable online RN to BSN program. This program is available (24/7) via eCourseware, which is the web-based, online program.

    Accelerated BSN

    This is a four-semester, full-time program at the Memphis campus for students who hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in another field. The program is only 18 months in length and begins in the Fall semester including one Summer term. Students who hold a bachelor's degree in another field may also apply for the five-semester Traditional BSN Program.

    Admission Requirements for MSN Applicants (not all inclusive):

    1. Undergraduate minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA
    2. Letter of interest including prior professional experience, future career goals
    3. 3 Letters of recommendation
    4. Interview with LCON graduate faculty upon request
    5. Resume
    6. Eligibility to practice as an RN in Tennessee or approved state, for clinical practicum
    7. Transfer students must have letter in good standing
    8. Successful completion of 3 semester hour or 4 quarter hour undergraduate Statistics

    Admission Requirements for individuals with a BSN Degree (not all inclusive):

    1. BSN
    2. Unrestricted RN license to practice in TN or approved state, for clinical practicum
    3. Admission requirements for RN applicants with a BA/BS non-nursing major 
    4. Completion of 12-unit RN/MSN nursing bridge sequence
    5. NOTE:  RN/MSN graduates will not be awarded the BSN degree

    Students admitted to MSN program, or post-master's certificate programs must have and maintain (not all inclusive):

    1. Unrestricted license to practice as RN in Tennessee or approved state, for clinical practicum
    2. Current CPR certification
    3. Hepatitis B (Heptavax); measles, mumps, rubella (MMR); polio; tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap), varicella vaccinations and/or titers
    4. Freedom from tuberculosis as evidenced by a negative PPD or health provider examination
    5. Annual flu shot vaccination, unless medically contraindicated
    6. Current professional malpractice insurance of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $6,000,000 aggregate

    Accelerated Bachelor's and Master's (RN-BSN-MSN) Degree

    The Loewenberg College of Nursing also offers an Accelerated Bachelor's and Master's (RN-BSN-MSN) Degree in Nursing Education or Nursing Administration. This program is for registered nurses who do not have a bachelor's degree in nursing or another discipline or for individuals with an associate's degree or diploma in nursing.

    Admission Requirements (not all inclusive)

    1. Minimum college 2.8 cumulative GPA
    2. Anatomy and Physiology I and II with lab and Microbiology with lab in seven (7) years of admission - grade of "C" or better
    3. Prerequisite courses with grade "C" or better (English Comp I and II, Intro to Sociology or General Psychology, Math, and Nutrition)
    4. Active, unencumbered RN license, or be eligible for licensure
    5. TN RN license or an approved state, for clinical course work
    6. Application for admission to the LCON RN-BSN-MSN program for students without a BA or BS degree
    7. Transfer students must have transcripts and letter of good standing from the dean/director of the previous nursing program

    Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

    This program is an online seven (7) semester (3.5) years Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing for registered nurses with a Masters or higher degree. Students who possess an unencumbered RN license or equivalent with an earned Master's degree or higher are eligible to apply.
