The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) is a public grant college founded on May 3, 1917. It began enrolling students in 1922 with seven faculty members, including President Charles Bunnell, offering 16 courses to an initial enrollment of six, which grew to fifteen by the year's end. Today, UAF offers more than 100 academic disciplines through its colleges and schools, including technical and vocational programs, and awards graduate degrees in a wide range of subjects. Renowned for its studies in the circumpolar North and the Pacific Rim, UAF consistently ranks among the top 100 universities in the US for NSF funding. Nursing Studies at UAF
The University of Alaska Fairbanks offers comprehensive nursing education programs through a collaboration with UAF Community & Technical College and the University of Alaska Anchorage. This partnership ensures students receive a robust education that combines theory and clinical practice, with classrooms and learning laboratories equipped with cutting-edge technology that simulates hospital and clinical settings, providing a genuine, hands-on learning experience.
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program integrates theory, skills, and clinical practice, giving students practical experience in clinics, hospitals, assisted living facilities, and community organizations.
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, offered in partnership with the University of Alaska Anchorage, consists of four semesters of nursing courses following three semesters of prerequisites. It is taught entirely in a classroom setting, offering a thorough in-person learning environment that prepares students for advanced nursing roles and admission to the University of Alaska Anchorage's BSN program.

The Nursing program at the University of Alaska Anchorage holds accreditation from the Alaska Board of Nursing.
The LPN program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is currently (as of June 2024) an active candidate for accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Nursing Education (ACEN), according to the ACEN website. The BSN degree is accredited by ACEN through the University of Alaska Anchorage.
