Touro University Nevada (TUN) School of Nursing is a private, non-profit nursing program in Nevada and was established in 2005.

TUN began the first DNP program in Nevada and one of the first on the west coast. In July 2017, the School of Nursing began offering an MSN that includes the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Nurse Educator tracks.

Undergraduate

RN to BSN

The RN to BSN program at Touro offers advancement to an undergraduate degree by enhancing the skills of the prepared RN. The classes are online-based and can be completed within one year.

Admissions Requirements (not all inclusive)

1. State Residence (limited admission restrictions): Nevada, Arizona, California, Florida, New York, Texas
2. Diploma or ADN from regionally accredited institution w/at least 60 transfer credit hours of coursework
3. Official transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended
4. AMH CPR certification at healthcare provider (HCP) level
5. Active, unencumbered United States RN license
6. U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
7. Transfer credits from regionally accredited institution accepted as prerequisites upon approval
8. State-mandated requirement Nevada and US Constitution courses
9. Level I criminal background check and drug screen

Is the RN to BSN program full-time or part-time?

The program is offered in a full time, seven-week layout, where courses are six credits each. There is a two-week break between courses.

Will I still be able to work while in the RN to BSN program?

It has been designed for the working professional and the decision is an individual choice.

Is clinical experience part of the RN to BSN program?

Yes, per CCNE standards for accreditation.

Graduate

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

The graduate program has two tracks including a graduate-level nurse educator or advanced practice family nurse practitioner.

The program has online classes that are year round with three trimesters per calendar year. There are short term on campus clinical intensives that are required as part of the FNP clinicals. The MSN Nurse Educator is 100% online. The MSN-FNP is mostly online, with a week in three of the trimesters where clinical skills and competency assessments are done in an offline setting.

I have two questions. How many clinical hours are required?  Am I required to secure my own clinical placement and preceptor?

The path to the MSN-FNP is 630 total clinical practicum hours. The University will assist the student with locating a clinical preceptor and site placement. Students may choose a suitable preceptor if they wish. The clinical preceptor and sites must be approved by TUN School of Nursing.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

The DNP program is 100% online and requires didactic and practicum nursing courses that comprise a total of 33 semester credits. Upon graduation, students are prepared to function as nursing leaders in a variety of practice settings.

Students choose a topic of interest and then engage in a practice immersion experience and a scholarly project. The lecture based courses are completed over eight weeks and practice based courses are completed over 16 weeks.

There is a practicum portion of the degree that has a total of 1,000 hours. The practicum hours completed during their MSN education are credited toward this requirement. A total of 528 hours are built into the 12-month program. Students are able to complete the hours in their hometown; no campus network is necessary. Students do need a reliable computer and high speed Internet because Web conferencing and teleconferencing will be utilized throughout the program.

Nursing Leadership is the track offered for the DNP degree. If the obtained MSN was in an area of advanced practice nursing, the student will not be required to take any extra practicum hours; only the practicum hours incorporated into the standard curriculum. There is no dissertation needed in this program. The required scholarly project entails a significant amount of written work. 

Accreditation and Approval

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing, master's degree program in nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice program and post-graduate APRN certificate program at Touro University Nevada are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Touro University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

The Nevada State Board of Nursing approved the Nursing program.
