Nursing Simulation Program

The new Nursing Simulation Complex opened in 2009 with over 3,500 square feet of education space, including a renovated Nursing Interventions Classroom (NIC) and a high-fidelity Experiential Learning Suite (ELS) containing four separate bays for Pediatrics, Maternity, Adult Medical Surgical, and Intensive Care patients. 

The simulation program serves all levels of our pre-licensure programs. Simulation activities covering Adult Medical Care, Community Health, Mental Health, Nursing Fundamentals, Pediatrics, and Reproductive Health are available. The program also supports physical examination training for the Nurse Practitioner Program.

Undergraduate Programs

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

The prelicensure BSN program at SF State is a two-year program that prepares students for entry-level positions in professional nursing practice in a variety of settings including hospitals, community clinics, long-term care, home care, and community health agencies. Graduates work as staff nurses in the following areas: maternity, pediatrics, medical-surgical nursing, gerontology, psychiatric/mental health, and public/community health nursing.

ADN-BSN

The ADN-BSN Program is a collaborative model for academic progression in Nursing between SF State School of Nursing and designated California Community College (CCC) partners.

This program is designed for students who meet University general education and community partner degree requirements to earn both ADN and BSN degrees in two and a half years through full-time study. 

Accelerated BSN Program (BSNA)

The Accelerated BSN program is held at the College of San Mateo and it is a 15-month program (four semesters, including the Summer session). It is offered through the College of Professional & Global Education at SF State and is supported by San Mateo Community College District and the CSU.

This program prepares students for entry-level positions in professional nursing practice in a variety of settings including hospitals, community clinics, long-term care, home care, and community health agencies. It also provides the basis for leadership and graduate education in nursing. 

Graduate Programs

Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing (ELM)

The Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing at SF State is a six-semester program. This program prepares students who possess a non-nursing bachelor's degree for the national licensing exam (NCLEX-RN) to become an RN. The BSN and MSN degrees are awarded after successful completion of the ELM program.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

The SF State Nursing Master of Science program is for California RNs who wish to pursue advanced practice nursing education.  All students engage in clinical practice experiences throughout the two-year curriculum and complete a thesis or applied research culminating experience.

Post Master's Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate (FNP)

The Post Master's FNP certificate program is an accelerated course of study tailored for nurses who possess a master's or doctorate nursing degree and desire to become a nurse practitioner. 

Through advanced education and clinical training with a family population focus, students who pursue this area of study are prepared for both California NP license and national board certification (American Academy of Nurse Practitioners & American Nurses Credentialing Center). 

School Nurse Credential Program

School nursing is an area of practice that requires specialized knowledge and training. To legally practice as a school nurse in California, the RN must have a School Nurse Services Credential. Approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, this program will help the nurse who holds a California School Nurse Services Preliminary Credential to satisfy the program requirement to clear their credential, before the preliminary credential expires.
