Minnesota North College has undergone many changes. Minnesota North College is governed by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System and is a public community and technical two-year college.

Traditional ADN and Advanced Standing LPN to ADN

Hibbing Community College offers a 64-credit Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. LPNs who are actively working as well as traditional students are accepted as applicants. The curriculum is taught in a classroom setting. Clinical rotations are completed at area community hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other community-based health care agencies.

Nursing Admission Process (not all inclusive)

The following steps are meant to guide applicants through the process of submitting an application for the nursing program as well as provide details on how criteria is gathered and used in making admission decisions.  Applicants must complete a Nursing program application to be accepted into the program.

1. Complete a Hibbing Community College Application form and fee
2. Send official college transcripts of ALL previous colleges attended
3. Complete and submit a Nursing Program Application AFTER receipt of the acceptance letter to the college (and September 1 or later).
4. Successfully complete a Nursing Assistant course
5. There are two entrance pathways into the Nursing program once applicants have received a general letter of acceptance to Hibbing Community College:  Traditional ADN and Advanced Standing LPN to ADN
6. Transfer of applicable college credits. Transcripts must be sent or complete the Credit Evaluation Request. Transcripts must show at least 13 semester credits completed prior to the application deadline of required general education courses as indicated on the most recent Hibbing Community College Program in Nursing Planning Form. A GPA of 3.0 or higher must be attained in the required general education courses as well as a minimum overall college GPA of 2.0.
7. PLEASE NOTE: The 13 semester credits of required general education courses must be completed prior to the application deadline AND any/all required general education course credits completed prior to the application deadline will be used to calculate if a student meets the GPA nursing program admission requirement of 3.0 or higher.
8. Scores from the ACT or SAT. Minimum required scores are an ACT composite score of 23 or higher or SAT combined score of 1070 (CR+M) or higher. These scores must be within two (2) years of the student's application to the program.
9. State law requires that any person who provides services that involve direct contact with patients and residents at a Minnesota licensed health care facility have a background study conducted by the State of Minnesota (Minnesota Department of Human Services/DHS background study). An individual who is disqualified from having direct patient contact as a result of the background study and whose disqualification is not set aside by the Commissioner of Health, will not be permitted to participate in a clinical placement in a licensed health care facility. Failure to participate in clinical placement required by this program will result in ineligibility to qualify for a degree, diploma, and/or certificate and will result in withdrawal from the program. Criminal background studies are completed annually. Initiation of the background check is upon direction of the program director only.

Additional Requirements for LPNs Applying to the Advanced Standing Track

1. Evidence of LPN program graduation or current enrollment in the last semester of a practical nursing program.
2. Before beginning the Fall Semester of the 2nd year, the applicant must have successfully completed (course grade of 'C' or higher) a college course in English composition, general psychology, lifespan development, two quarters/semesters of anatomy and physiology, and Microbiology.
3. Note:  Only one course can be taken during the Summer session along with NURS 1750 Nursing Bridge.

The Minnesota State Board of Nursing approved Hibbing Community College's nursing program.

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited Hibbing Community College's nursing program.

Hibbing Community College is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission.
