The Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions was founded in 1863.

The School of Nursing (MGHIHP), established in 1977, offers two tracks to enter into nursing and several pathways for Registered Nurses who want to specialize or advance through various degrees or certifications.

Undergraduate

MGHIHP School of Nursing has 2 direct-entry options for students with a bachelor's degree in any field:  the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) and the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).

Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN)

This is a 15-month intensive program designed for non-nursing college graduates (with a degree) seeking a career as a Registered Nurse (RN).  Throughout this program, preparation is incorporated for the NCLEX exam.

Admission Requirements (not all-inclusive)

  • Official transcript(s) from all colleges and/or universities attended
  • TEAS Score Report (for students applying to Summer 2018 and beyond)
  • (3) Reference letters
  • Personal and Diversity Statements
  • Prerequisite courses must be completed at a regionally accredited institution with a minimum letter grade of "C" or better and must have been completed within the last 10 years

This 34-credit intensive program is designed for working professionals.  Students work on one fully integrated 9-credit course per semester and complete a DNP project developed throughout the program.  The curriculum includes:

  • Weekend intensives twice a semester-Boston Campus
  • 10 live, online classes/seminars each semester
  • Flexible, independent online learning modules

RN-DNP Requirements (not all-inclusive)

  1. RN's with Bachelor's Degree - graduate or undergraduate Statistics course with a grade "C" or better
  2. RN's with Associate Degree/Nursing Diploma - complete 54 undergraduate general education credits  
  3. Prerequisite requirements through CLEP or Excelsior College Examinations within 5 years of application

DNP for Advanced Practice Nurses Requirements (not all-inclusive)

This program accepts Registered Nurses with a Master's in Nursing and who are practicing as Advanced Practice Nurses as follows:

DNP for Nurse Executives

This program is designed exclusively for Chief Nursing Officers, Vice Presidents of Nursing, and other executive-level nurse leaders.
