Hands-On Learning Experience

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program equips students with essential skills in leadership, collaboration, and healthcare technologies to improve patient care and promote health equity.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Systems (BSHS) program is ideal for those with a health-related associate degree, preparing graduates for diverse roles in clinical practice, management, and community health, with a focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and effective leadership.

The Entry-Level Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is a seven-semester program for individuals with a non-nursing bachelor's degree, leading to eligibility for the NCLEX-RN exam and licensure as a registered nurse.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Nurse Anesthesia offers clinical experience in various settings across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa, preparing graduates for safe anesthesia practice.

The DNP Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program provides four semesters of clinical rotations in primary care across the lifespan, with students gaining at least 1,000 hours of hands-on experience through clinical practicum and scholarship work.

Mode of Learning 

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is a four-year, in-person undergraduate program. The RN to BSN program offers flexibility with online or hybrid formats, with new cohorts starting every fall, Spring, and Summer semester; nursing courses are completed asynchronously online.

For advanced degrees, the Entry-Level Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is an in-person program spanning seven semesters. The post-master's Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) track requires 33–34 credits over two years of full-time study, while the BSN to DNP track involves 75 credits over four years of full-time study. The DNP in Nurse Anesthesia is also an in-person program, requiring 78 credits to complete, with clinical experiences across various settings.

NCLEX Pass Rate 

The NCLEX Pass rate recorded in 2023 for the graduates of Metropolitan State University Nursing students is 87.50%

Admissions at MSU

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis through July 15 in Nursing CAS. The fall cohort model starts only. Applications are only submitted once, and an application fee applies to students except active-duty military, veterans, and Metro State alumni.

Accreditation

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs at Metro State are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The Minnesota Board of Nursing recognizes the DNP program as an APRN preparation program. Additionally, the Nurse Anesthesia program, offered in collaboration with and through the Minneapolis School of Anesthesia (MSA), is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA).
