Mercer County Community College (MCCC) is a public institution located in West Windsor, New Jersey.

The Associate Degree program is the main nursing program offered at Mercer County Community College. Faculty are supportive and committed to provide high quality nursing education to meet a myriad of health-care needs of the community and to promote the development of qualified students prepared for the professional role of the entry level RN. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) and if successful, become eligible to seek licensure as a Registered Nurse in his or her state.

BSN Partner Programs

MCCC students who wish to further their education may do so through the college's partnership with four-year Nursing programs that include, Rutgers University and Felician College. These educational entities offer RN-BSN completion programs on-campus at MCC.

Academic Programs

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program provides daytime and evening/weekend hours.

Requirements (not all inclusive)

  • USA citizen or permanent resident
  • Qualified non-USA applicants considered after qualified MCCC residents are accommodated
  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Satisfactory performance on the college skills placement test
  • Completion of any required academic foundations courses
  • Cumulative (transfer or Mercer) minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • 80% or higher in English Language Composite; 80% or higher on math portion of HESI Admission
  • Assessment Exam
  • Complete first semester courses with C or higher; exception BIO 103, which requires C+ or higher
  • Attendance at a mandatory Nursing program information session

Required Documents after Acceptance/Admission (not all inclusive)

All nursing students are required to complete an initial medical clearance process. This must include physical exam, documentation of tuberculin testing via QuantiFERON-TB or PPD skin testing. Students who test positive via QuantiFERON-TB may be required to obtain additional testing, such as a chest x-ray. Documentation of blood titers demonstrating immunity to Rubella, Rubeola, Mumps, Varicella, and Hepatitis B, urine dip for blood, protein, specific gravity, and glucose, 10 panel urine drug screen (not required by all programs), proof of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis immunization within last ten years.

All students are required to be vaccinated against the influenza virus in the fall of each year. Vaccinations must be received between October 1 and October 31 for maximum effect during the influenza peak season. Vaccination received earlier than October 1 will not be accepted.

Students testing positive for any drug, due to prescribed medication, must submit documentation from the prescribing health care provider. Any student with a positive urine drug screen that cannot provide documentation of prescribed medication from a health care provider will not be permitted to continue in the nursing program.

After hospitalization, surgery or childbirth, students must submit medical clearance. If requested, students may be requested to obtain additional medical clearance. Medical clearance must reflect no restriction(s).

All students are required to carry personal health insurance and provide proof annually.

All students are required to purchase individual liability coverage and submit proof of coverage and must remain current throughout the academic year. Minimum coverage requirements: $1,000,000 each claim and $3,000,000 aggregate.

Proof of training in Healthcare Professional (including AED) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) from either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association and must remain current throughout the duration of the academic year.

Students are required to complete a criminal background check upon acceptance to the program and annually. The background check must be completed through the designated nursing program provider.

LPN to RN Advanced Placement

The LPN-RN Advanced Placement option offers the LPN the opportunity to gain experiential credit for their LPN license and receive 6 credits for Concepts of Nursing Practice I.

NOTE:  The LPN to RN Advanced Placement program is currently not accepting applicants.

  • Current New Jersey LPN license
  • Cumulative (transfer or MCCC) minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • 80% or higher on English Language Composite/80% or higher on math portion of HESI Admission Assessment Exam
  • Attendance at a mandatory Nursing program information session
  • Completion of prerequisite courses
  • Pass comprehensive skills assessment exam, Dosage Calculation exam, and complete HESI Fundamentals of Nursing Exam
  • Meet the same residency and immigration requirements as generic applicants

Approval and Accreditation

The New Jersey Board of Nursing approved the college's Nursing program.

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited the ADN program.

Mercer County Community College is accredited by he Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
