Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949 and was originally called Lake Washington Technical College. Located in Kirkland, Washington, with a satellite campus in nearby Redmond, LWTech is a two-year technical community college and the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington.
Nursing Programs
Lake Washington Institute of Technology's Nursing program offers a Pre-Nursing Direct Transfer Agreement/ Major Related Program (DTA/MRP) and an Associate in Applied Science-Transfer (AAS-T).
Pre-Nursing Direct Transfer Agreement/ Major Related Program (DTA/MRP)
The Pre-Nursing Direct Transfer Agreement/ Major Related Program is an Associate Degree track that offers a wide selection of academic courses that focus on preparing students for higher degree coursework. This pathway is intended to lead students to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (Entry-to-practice/basic BSN). LWTech's Pre-Nursing graduates are academically prepared to apply to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program at a variety of institutions throughout Washington State. The following Baccalaureate institutions offer an entry-to-practice/basic BSN program:

- Seattle Pacific University
- Pacific Lutheran University
- Walla Walla College
- Washington State University Intercollegiate College of Nursing (consortium members including): Eastern Washington University, Gonzaga, Whitworth
Associate in Applied Science-Transfer (AAS-T)
The Nursing Associate in Applied Science Transfer Degree is designed for students who are compassionate and competent, technically advanced and highly educated. This program prepares nurses for professional practice in a variety of care settings and sets the foundation for lifelong learning for those who are interested in pursuing a Baccalaureate level degree. Graduates of the AAS-T program are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX).
Admissions Requirements (not all-inclusive)
Admission to the AAS-T program works slightly different than the admission process at other colleges. Additional application and qualification requirements with application deadlines make admission selection competitive and unique to this program.
Registered Nurse Admissions for Working LPNs
As of 12/5/18, applications are not being accepted to the RN admissions for working LPNs program.
When space becomes available, eligible LPNs have the opportunity to join this program. The Office of Admissions will contact eligible students when space becomes available and they will be offered a position in the program. Lake Washington Tech cannot guarantee space in the program on any given quarter. Applications are required to determine if interested candidates meet the admission criteria. There is no admission deadline for application materials.

- Additional documentation may be required for nursing students to participate in community-based clinical affiliations that are required for completion of this nursing program

- May also hold valid LPN license or Medical Assistant License & verified with Department of Health
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Clinical Practicums are held on various days of the week including weekends. Days, evenings, and night shifts are used. Theory classes are offered Monday through Friday.
This is NOT a part-time program and can not be taken as one.
This program prepares nurses to work in a variety of care settings including (but not limited to) medical offices, hospital, long-term care, home health, and school nursing.
Internships are not required but many hospitals do require a new graduate to complete a residency before starting full-time work.
Nursing students are required to carry health insurance.
Supplies needed to participate in the nursing program include uniforms, nursing tools, and a computer.
The degree received upon graduation is transferable.
If you do not pass the clinical background check, you will not be able to complete the nursing program, as it is required for access to clinical facilities.
Washington State Department of Health does a background check prior to issuing a nursing license. Their website gives a list of felonies and misdemeanors that are not acceptable for licensure.
