Ferris State University, founded in 1884 by Woodbridge and Helen Ferris, began as the privately owned Big Rapids Industrial School, aimed at providing accessible education to diverse students. Mode of Learning
For new undergraduate nursing students, the pre-licensure BSN program features an innovative five-semester track that prepares graduates for the NCLEX-RN exam. Offered in person on campus, this program emphasizes the development of essential clinical skills.
Ferris State University provides online RN to BSN and RN to MSN completion programs tailored for RNs with associate degrees or diplomas, catering to both new graduates and experienced nurses pursuing advanced degrees.
The MSN program offered fully online, features a learner-centered curriculum with concentrations in nursing administration, nursing informatics, and nursing education. The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is also available fully online as a post-master's leadership degree, which can be completed in two years with 8-week courses.
Additionally, Ferris State offers a 16-credit, fully online Nursing Education Certificate designed for bachelor's, master's, or doctoral-prepared nurses. This certificate equips nurses to become faculty in nursing programs or staff educators in healthcare settings, providing the specialized skills and knowledge needed for the nurse educator role.
