East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is a public institution that was founded in 1911.
Undergraduate
Accelerated BSN - The program is on ground full-time only. Five (5) semesters including Summer semester/s. Graduates qualify to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN - Available to students holding bachelor's degrees from regionally accredited schools in fields other than nursing. Complete the degree in five (5) semesters (18 months, including Summer semester/s). Graduates qualify to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
ETSU/HVMC Accelerated BSN Program - This program, in Kingsport, TN is a collaborative educational effort between the ETSU College of Nursing and Holston Valley Medical Center. The program is on ground full-time only. Requires five (5) semesters to complete. Graduates qualify to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
ETSU/Sevierville Accelerated BSN - This program is an expansion of the ETSU College of Nursing at the ETSU Sevierville location. Requires five (5) semesters to complete. Graduates qualify to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
Traditional BSN - This is not an online program. All classes are daytime only and on the ETSU Main Campus in Johnson City. Nursing courses take five semesters to complete. If accepted at the beginning of 3rd semester in college, degree can be completed in four years. Graduates qualify to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
RN-BSN - 100% on-line.
Dual Degree - Available to students currently enrolled in an Associate degree or Diploma nursing program with an ETSU College of Nursing articulation agreement. 100% all online. Students will continue in the RN to BSN Program after completion of the Associate degree or diploma nursing program. Graduates qualify to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
LPN-BSN - Completed in 4 semesters Fall, Spring and Summer. Classes held in the evenings 1-3 days a week. All prerequisite and general education courses must be completed before starting the program. Graduates qualify to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
Graduate
MSN - Specialty concentrations in Nursing Administration, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Education, and the Family Nurse Practitioner. Fully online. Full-time students can complete the degree in five (5) semesters. Part-time options available.
RN-MSN - Specialty concentrations in Nursing Administration, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Education, and the Family Nurse Practitioner. Fully online. Full-time students can complete the degree in five (5) semesters. Part-time options available.
BSN-DNP - This is a blended/online program. Concentrations include:
- Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
- Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
- Executive Leadership in Nursing
- Family Nurse Practitioner
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
- Psych/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

MSN-DNP - This is a blended/online program. Concentrations include:

Certificate Programs - Post-graduate certificate programs prepare the advanced practice registered nurse with a graduate degree of either an MSN or DNP to obtain additional education in a new concentration/specialty area:
- Post BSN - Health Care Genetics and Genomics
- Post-grad APRN - Adult/Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
- Post-grad Certificates - Nursing Administration, Post-DNP Executive Leadership in Nursing
Accreditation and Approval
The BSN, MSN, DNP, ETSU-TTU Joint DNP, and post-graduate APRN certificate programs at East Tennessee State University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
ETSU is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS).
The ETSU College of Nursing BSN program is approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing.
