Located in Johnson City, Tennessee, East Tennessee State University (ETSU) was founded in 1911. It is a public research university with additional centers in Kingsport, Elizabethton, and Sevierville. Formerly part of the State University and Community College System of Tennessee under the Tennessee Board of Regents, ETSU transitioned to governance by its own institutional Board of Trustees in 2016. As of 2017, it is the fourth-largest university in the state and classified as an "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity." Unique Features of the Nursing Programs at ETSU

One of the perks of studying at this College of Nursing is the accessibility to the Center for Nursing Research initiative. The Initiative aims to advance nursing faculty members' ability to conduct and disseminate credible nursing and inter-professional research and scholarship that support nursing students at all levels in their learning. On the other hand, ETSU College of Nursing offers Evidence-Based Practice, Evidence-Based Teaching, instructional technology, and simulation. Mode of Learning 

  • Accelerated Program: Exclusively conducted on-site at the Johnson City, Kingsport, and Sevierville campuses.
  • BSN Program: Requires physical attendance.
  • LPN-BSN Program: Requires full on-site participation.
  • RN-BSN Program: Conducted entirely online.
  • Dual Degree RN to BSN Program: Operates fully online.
  • MSN Programs: Conducted online.
  • DNP and PhD Programs: Follow a blended/online format.

NCLEX -RN Pass Rates

In the first quarter of 2024, ETSU nursing students had a 97% first-attempt pass rate on the NCLEX. This success is a direct reflection of the high-quality nurse education taking place across the ETSU College of Nursing Program.  

Admissions 

The Nursing Program admits 85 students each in the Spring and fall, making admissions competitive. Once admitted, students are assigned to a specific program location and cohort, and changes are not permitted.

Accreditation

The ETSU College of Nursing's BSN, MSN, DNP, and Post-Graduate Certificate programs are fully approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. (CCNE)
