The Department of Nursing (DON) at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is committed to the university's broad mission of teaching and service, research excellence, and intellectual interaction and creativity included in the full range of programs offered through the DON.
Nursing Testing Lab
The Nursing Testing, Nursing Skills, and Nursing Simulation Labs are available to students for studying, research, testing, skill acquisition, and application exercises/simulation. Nursing students learn the basic to the advanced skills and knowledge needed to care for clients in the hospital and community. The skills labs are set up as hospital rooms, providing students with a realistic environment.
Undergraduate Programs
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
The prelicensure BSN program at CSUSB prepares the graduate to take the national RN licensure examination (NCLEX-RN) and begin professional nursing practice.
The baccalaureate degree in nursing also prepares graduates for advanced nursing education required to enter advanced practice nursing roles. Two cohorts are admitted annually to the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses, Fall and Spring terms.
Post-Licensure RN-BSN
The RN to BSN program is designed for current CA-licensed RNs wishing to obtain a BSN degree. The RN to BSN program admits students for the Fall semester each year. Applications are accepted throughout the calendar year, with the application deadline of June 15th for the same year's Fall admission.
The CSUSB RN to BSN hybrid program provides an opportunity to earn the BSN with a combination of online and traditional classroom instruction, allowing face-to-face interaction with a faculty member during four out of 15 semester weeks.
Graduate Programs
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
The Department of Nursing offers a hybrid online graduate program leading to the MSN. Every student completes a series of core courses and selects from one of three concentrations/specializations: Advanced Community/Public Health Nursing, Population Health for Clinical Nurse Leaders, and Nurse Educator. Students choosing full-time plans of study typically complete the degree in two to two-and-one-half academic years. Part-time progression is possible, as well.
Post-Graduate Certificates
Nurse Educator
The Department of Nursing demonstrates its commitment to preparing nurse educators for the profession by offering a Nurse Educator post-graduate certificate for nurses with graduate nursing degrees in other specializations who wish to prepare for the nurse educator role. The Nurse Educator certificate prepares the holder for nurse educator positions in both academic and clinical settings. The certificate program consists of a total of 20 units.
Advanced Community/Public Health
The Department of Nursing demonstrates its commitment to preparing nurses for advanced nursing roles by offering a post-graduate certificate for nurses with graduate nursing degrees in other specializations who wish to prepare for an advanced role in community/public health. The Advanced Community/Public Health Nursing certificate prepares the holder for practice in community/public health settings. The certificate program consists of a total of 17 units.
Non-Degree Programs
Foreign Trained Nurse
This non-degree program of study is designed specifically for nurses who have obtained their formal nursing education in another country and/or state, yet would like to practice as an RN in California. The program prepares students to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), which is a requirement to practice professional nursing in California.
