Founded in 1945 as Smith-Hughes Vocational School, Atlanta Technical College has evolved significantly over the decades. Renamed Hoke Smith Technical Institute in 1964, it expanded its offerings with federal support in the late 1960s.
Now accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the college enrolls about 4,800 students per semester, offering associate degrees, diplomas, technical certificates, and continuing education courses, both in-person and online. It also provides tailored courses for businesses through its Economic Development Division.
