Schools in Ft. Myers area?

Hi all. I am currently living in NJ and just bought a house in Ft.Myers. I only have A&P II & Microbiology left before I was to start in the 2yr RN program here at the community college. I just took the NET last week (still waiting for the results ). I have a few questions for anyone who is currently or previously from the Fort Myers area.
1) Any recommendations on community colleges? I am a stay at home mom with 3 elementary school children, so I'd like to keep the cost down.
2) Does FL use the NET, or a different type of nursing entrance test?
3) Has anyone had any experience with transferring from one school to the next?

What part of Fort Myers did you purchase your house? The area is very large, but Fort Myers is a great place to live. The educational system is really quite good in comparison to other parts of the State. The community really supports its young people and the school system. As far as community colleges, there is only one and it is Edison Community College. It is a great school .... I did the majority of my pre-reqs there for RN school, but ended up relocating to Sarasota and went to Manatee Community College. I enjoyed the ECC campus and the faculty were very good. I know the ECC nursing program is excellent and they have had good pass rates on the State Boards. Of course, if you are looking for your BSN ... there is Florida Gulf Coast University ..... it is a cutting edge university that offers a wonderful undergraduate program. I am not sure if they have opened their advanced practice MSN program yet .... but the college is really super.

Good luck with your move and I hope you like the area. As far as transfer credits .... don't be too nervous about it as ECC will transfer your credits as long as they were earned through a regionally accredited school.

Hi. Thanks so much for your response. We bought a home in Caloosa Creek development, which is off Iona Rd(?). I will definitely look into Edison CC. I'm glad to hear that it is a good school. At least it is not a confusing as trying to place my children in the elementary schools! Thanks again!

Hello,

I am a native of Fort Myers, Florida. I have to admit that I have never attended Edison college. I was busy raising my 3 children and working. Now that they are all grown, I finally have a chance to go back to school.

I was a NA student in '97. I took classes at Lee Cty Hi Tech Central. I would like to enroll in the PN program there. However, I am also looking at the requirements to enroll in ECC.

I am just not sure which one would be the best. I don't know if I should go to Hi Tech and complete the PN program and then go to ECC for RN or just skip it (PN) and enroll at ECC for the general college courses and apply to the Nursing program and get placed on the waiting list.

Anyone out there familiar with ECC and their programs? Care to offer any hints?

I am currently enrolled at ECC for pre-nursing. I'm taking A&P1 right now and Ethics, then I just have 2 more classes to take over the summer and can apply to the RN program in the Fall. There is no waiting list at ECC for the RN program, admissions are done on a point system, the more points you have the better chance you have of getting in on the first attempt.

I too recommend Edison College
