I am a nursing student just getting interested in u oncology. Do you have to go to school for more than what a normal nursing degree would need or do you just take different orientation routes or extra classes ??? :nuke:

Seasonal...?
All nurses receive education in areas considered to be the basics of entry-level. You'll learn what you need to start out, generally speaking.
The education you receive will enable you to start in pretty much any area of nursing (broad brush here, of course). However, time spent IN a particular specialty unit will yield the valuable education you'd require to succeed there. Time is experience. Seminars are nice, but for the most part, orientation and just plain old DOING it is the primary way of getting the experience.
Some areas will not accept you unless you've had a certain amount of experience in the more general areas of nursing. Med-surg, acute care is often the pre-requ for lots of other areas.
You can ask more specific questions if you go to the tabs on the top of this website's page, click on Specialty, and go to the message boards for oncology.
Good luck! :)
