I'm a long time lurker, but just found out about three (3) hours ago that I was accepted into my first choice accelerated BSN program!
That said, my program begins in Summer 2011- not exactly the height of school supply sale season. I'm fortunate to live in a state with a tax-free holiday this weekend on school supplies.
I don't want to go crazy, but I want to treat myself to a few things I can put aside. I know everyone learns differently (three-ring binders vs. spiral notebooks, index cards, etc.), but what are some must-have essentials you would buy to prepare for school? I'm thinking highlighters & index cards and my favorite pens.
What are the nursing school essential supplies you'd splurge on in Target this weekend if you had $50-$75?
Also, I'm looking for recommendations for reliable, waterproof women's sports watches. I'm sure there are posts on this already, so I'll search, but if anyone has any favorites, please let me know.

Congratulations on your acceptance. I'm not a fan of shopping a Target though. I purchased a toolbox for my skills class to hold all of my supplies. I'm getting a rolling back pack for this semester because my books are really big. My first semester was easy. I had Clinical Skills and a Professional Concept class, so I really didn't need that much. If you don't have a PDA I would suggest that you get one so that you can downloade your books. I purchased a digital watch that has military time from Walmart. I also signed up with Upromise, stores give you a percent from your online purchases which helps out as well especially when buying book. Also, Barnes and noble is linked to amazon which is also good. Hope this helps.
Thanks for your suggestions! As a newbie, I realized there were a ton of similar forums, so next time I'll search before posting, but if anyone has ideas, please let me know!

In the state of OK tax free weekend is not for school supplies. You get discounts on clothing, shoes and any single item under $100 (except school supplies, backpack, sports gear, basically things for school). I buy my things on amazon anyways that's tax free all year long and I get free shipping. You don't need a pda if you have a blackberry, iPhone, or an Android phone as you can buy software on skyscape or epocrates or get the kindle app for your blackberry or iPhone and buy books through that.

Wow, sounds kinda crazy! Here in NC, it seemed like everything was tax-free. I even bought a rug and some other stuff to decorate my daughter's bedroom and it was tax-free as well.
