School question

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I'm about to start school and I'm going to a college to get my AS. But I am a little bit confused because on one part of the school's website, nursing requires 2 yr of prerequesite (60 credits) and then start one one yr of nursing but in another part it just enlists a list of prerequesites of 30 credits and then getting started on nursing. Just wondering, how did it work for people getting their A.S.?

Many if not most people who went thru the Associates program at my school applied for the nursing program each semester and until they were accepted, were matriculated in the Allied Health program. This allowed them to take the sciences etc that are program requirements.

Pre-req's, on the other hand, had to be done before one could even apply. THese include stuff like basic chemistry and whatever else one didn't take in high school that is required.

So perhaps your school meant to distinguish between requirements and pre-reqs. In theory, one could take the sciences at the same time as the nursing courses; this was the small group of students admitted right from high-school. They are the only ones in my school who truly do the two-year degree in two years. Many people take 3 or 4 years total.

But the prerequisites are usually 30 credits or 60?

According to my school's website, prereq's include:

High school algebra or sequential math one

Biology

Chemistry

I am not sure but that sounds like it would be around 12 credits maybe? I know chem is 4 because I took it, the others not totally sure.

Then the program requirements are:

Anatomy (4 cred)

Physiology (4 cred)

Microbiology (4 cred)

Dev Psych (3)

Eng 101 (3)

Psych 101 (3)

Sociology 101 (3)

Electives (6)

phys ed/health ed (2)

So that is a total of 32 credits, and that doesn't include the credits for the core program which is 33.

DOes that help?

My ASN program is 72 credit hours total. About 30 or less credits were prereques.
