Hi all,
I was just curious to know if anyone currently in NP school knew anything about how to earn scholarships to pay for school. Currently, I am using my savings and assisstance from work, but I could also use any additional funds as well. I have been searching and have noticed that it is easier to find scholarships for undergraduate student than it is for graduate. Anything available for grad students (especially through my university) is only available to FULL time students (which i am not).

If you are willing to work in a community health center with an underserved population, I would look into the National Health Service Corps. I took out loans to pay for school, but the NHSC gave me $50,000 to pay back my loans in return for a 2 year commitment. Google NHSC Loan Repayors and get some information. Right now they have a ton of money and everyone who works at a qualifying health center is being approved.

What did you have to do to qualify and were you able to pick where you wanted to work? Was the pay decreased to compensate for it?

i just filled my paper work out, i waited untill i had been on the job to 5 months to make sure i was going to like where i was just as a safety net, let me tell you if you work under this program you are going to have pt's who are gratefull for you to take care of them, some are not but most are, the positives outweigh the negatives, most of my pt's are medicaid and struggle to make ends meet. One word of caution if you take the loan pay back and you do not fulfill your obligation the pay back is high read the fine print, that is why i waited to see if it was a good fit, but if np is your dream go for it:)
just be willing to work in a underserved area, it depends where you are and what speciality you are, i am a pnp so i had few choices, i live 90 minutes from home so have a apt where i work and commute home on weekends, I make 36.00 an hour plus $ 10.00 for every pt i see over 16 pts.

If you are a member of NAON, they are offering a scholarship.
