Scholarship question?

Published

I am applying for a scholarship through my work for $1000 for a nursing student interested in cardiac nursing (which I am)..one of the questions wants you to explain in 100 words or less "Interest in Cardiac Diseases"...now I'm not asking for someone to write this for me but I am confused on what they want here..am I expressing what specific cardiac diseases I want to work with..or what? Because I have tech'd in a CCU and have seen post-open heart, MI, PE patients on that floor but I don't really know what diseases because I only floated there once. Do I express my interest in a CCU unit and talk about my tech experience? I just need a general direction of how to answer this..I feel like I am looking at it all wrong.

I think they are asking why are you interested in the working with pt's who have cardiac diseases...what is the main reason you are attracted to this specialty, ect.

Questions such as these on scholarship applications or school applications aren't usually looking for a specific "right" answer or approach. They just want to give you a chance to tell them about yourself and to assure them that you have a true interest in being a cardiac nurse. Because this scholarship is not available to all students -- just to those interested in cardiac nursing -- the money was probably donated by the family of a cardiac patient or a cardiologist or cardiac nurse with the stipulation that it be used to help a student interested in that kind of nursing.

So ... be sure your essay talks about what interests you in that specialty. Where does that interest come from? What do you find interesting about it? Talking about your past experiences sounds like a great way to help the selection committee see you as someone whose interest in working with cardiac patients is genuine. I think they are far less interested any discussion of cardiac diseases and much more interested in your desire to help cardiac patients by furthering your education.
