Scary job market for Nursing school grads...What health related careers are in demand

Published

Im thinking of going into another field.I really want to be a Nurse but im afraid that I won't find a job a.Plus I can't really afford Nursing school.I prefer to get my Associates degree in another health related career so that I can pay the bills and pay for the furthering of my education .Any ideas ??

If you're looking to get an associated degree then the other fields that I've seen jobs for recently that only require a 2yr degree is radiology/ultasound tech, respiratory therapy and radiation therapy. These programs are pretty much close to nursing in the line of competition, maybe even more because they usually only have a small group of students 20-50 and there are less schools for it. Respiratory and Radiation Therapists will put you in the same bracket in salary as nursing, radiology/ultrasound tech might be a little lower but definetely still a good salary.

Of course you can get a 2 yr degree in nursing as well. With the economy no job market is promised of course.

If you want to be a nurse then go for it. I'm not really sure where you are coming from saying you can't afford nursing school but want to get an associates degree. If you go the CC route, then its the same cost. Jobs are tight for new grads, but eventually the market will open up again. Lots of folks break in by hiring on as CNA's which gets your foot in the door with good experience. We have quite a few people in my class that are medical office assistants that are looking to move up. My logic says just go for it and after a couple of years of hard work you are there. Good luck.

I tried applying to a Nursing program at a CC like 5 years ago but didn't get accepted.I had a 3.55 GPA...My chances of getting into a Nursing program are much high at Private schools which are very costly.
