Hi everyone,

I am almost done with my pre-reqs. I should be starting the nursing program next year, granted i get accepted into the accelerated program based on GPA which I have a high one.

I need to read from someone, anyone that they have had the same feeling as I do..........SCARED OUT OF MY MIND!

I lovee caring for patients. I am a MA and phlebotomist. I have a passion, desire, and drive to become a RN. I know it is my ideal job. But why do I feel scared? Scared that i will mess up, scared that i wont be able to handle it, scared that I wont be able to catch on to things or that I might let things pass me and not be quick to respond....

Geezzzzzz :uhoh3: :uhoh21:

Is this normal??? When I first started taking classes I was like, "oh, ill be fine,...i know ill be a kick ass nurse!!!',...now that its getting closer and closer,...Im freaking out-saying, "maybe I should change careers?" Why am I so scared? LOL I sound like a psycho right???

Please some advise will help me a WHOLE LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just want you to know that you're not alone.. I also feel the same way..:crying2: Well, I guess it's just a normal feeling for us neophytes.. My friend who is now working as an RN here in the Phils. told me that it took him 2 months to totally adjust with his work in the hospital.. He was also thankful that his seniors gladly assisted him and guided him with the procedures.. Now, he's enjoying his work. Prayers and hardwork are all we need to survive Nursing... Be strong! :p

So glad to hear im not alone after all!!! I just want to be a great nurse, thats all. Sometimes when I watch programs on TV on discovery health channel and see these nurses-how quick they respond to situations, how aggressive they are, ect...I sit and say...........,"boy will i be like that?"

How long till you finish and become a RN?

I felt the same way, so you are not alone. As a new grad I find that I go back and forth between having a lot of confidence and feeling like I should go back to the lab (my previous career). It was the same way in nursing school.

All of the nurses on my floor have been very supportive, and every single one of them has said that it will get easier. I know that you can do it too!

:monkeydance: Now I feel like dancing! Im really not alone. So I'm guessing its common in students to feel scared. Im feeling less lonely now

I think it's very normal to have mixed feelings about life's decisions. You are taking a huge step - career preparation - that calls for a major commitment of time, money, etc. and it is only natural to be nervous re: such a big undertaking.

I pray you will find peace and assurance and will become a super nurse.

You are so totally normal, I didnt sleep my first night before my first class - Its a huge undertaking, but so worth it! You have a great background, I came to nursing from IT/Computers with no medical background - I thought I was insane but I so dont regret it -Good Luck!

With any career I think its natural to be very scared and nervous. I am finishing up my pre-reqs also and I think my doubt will start to kick in when I'm actually excepted into the program. I just think your feelings are more excitement than fear. You sound determined and motivated, you'll make a fabulous nurse. Don't give up!!!!

I, too, was afraid of entering nursing school. Just remember, while you are taking all your classes, they are trying to push the limits so you will do your best. I am now in my final week of nursing school! Let me just say, the fear doesn't subside once you graduate. You will learn and grow. You will suffer and enjoy much satisfaction. Keep up and never go anywhere without your drug book and your Taber's! Good luck. Be proud of your accomplishments. You will succeed.

I would be more worried if you approached every step withOUT any fear, thinking you were kick-ass, as you put it, all the way through. Overconfidence can lead to as many errors as timidity and self-doubt.

After an initial OHMIGOSH you should settle into a happy medium where you know what you know and know you don't know more than you do know!
