Hello all, looking for work for about 2 weeks-no takers yet...

not so good at this online-application strategy that MOST hospitals are implementing....can I go in person?

Should I take a part-time-pocket-money-job in the time in between?

I want to be hired! Getting restless!:banghead:

thank you

Hi there..

I really believe in going in person.......hospitals gets 100's of resumes online....but seeing your face I believe is invaluable...just make sure you make a good first impression on the receptionist.....these are the ones that will make or break you.....then the nurse recruiter.:wink2:

This has worked for me...

all the best!!!

It seems like applying on-line takes a while as the paperwork winds its way to the correct people. I know that after I applied on-line, it was often 2-3 wks before someone called me. You can call them and ask for an update on your application if its been awhile.

Also, I've discovered that once you have a contact in the nursing HR office, you can just call her/him up directly and see how things are moving along. All the HR staff I've worked with have been extremely nice, helpful, and EAGER to get me into their facility.

I know how desperate this waiting can feel. Try to be patient. You will get a job. Good luck.

I agree with the above poster. If you put in an application online and don't follow up with HR it can be overlooked or not ever looked at. The best thing to do is apply to positions specifically for new graduates and call the HR dept of those hospitals and ask for the status of your application. Some places have it where you can view the status of your application online. But making that first contact with someone in HR may be the key to getting an interview.

I know at least one hospital here that, if you walk in, directs you to a bank of computers so you can apply online. They don't accept anything on paper. Definitely contact HR though and follow up within a week of filling out the application. When I have, the HR person has pulled up my ap while I was on the phone, let me know what I could do to improve my status, and told me when to expect a call or when to call back to schedule an interview. Also, use any contacts that you may have - where did you do your preceptorship? Call your preceptor and see if he/she can get their NM to consider you. Do you have a good relationship with any clinical instructors, or other faculty who have a connection with any hospitals in your area? USE them. Ask them to talk to HR for you, or to think of a unit or NM you might match with. Filling out an online application and hitting send isn't always enough. You can also stop by HR instead of calling when you want to check on the status of your application, and see if they can suggest anything else for you to apply for. That also helps put a face with your name. Good luck, if you're dedicated to the hunt you should find something!
