Scared I won't be granted a license

Published

This is my first post here so bare with me..

I just graduated from a LPN program and passed my boards but I just received a letter from the BON that there is an arrest om my record for drug possession that happened 12 years ago when I was in the military. I actually didn't even know it was on my official record because I never went in front of a judge, I was just given a general discharge and dismissed from the army. Anyway, I just received my records from them and I am currently writing my narrative letters explaining why I checked no and details surrounding the event. I guess my question is, Is this an offense that could possibly deny me a license? Any feedback or similar experiences would be great because I'm scared to death that I wont be granted a license because of this. I have never been arrested before other than this one time....:uhoh21:

questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:

  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history?
  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a dui or other related charges?
  • what happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?
  • can i go to nursing school and/or be licensed if my record has been sealed or expunged?
  • will i be able to go to nursing school with a criminal record?
  • what can happen if i receive a dui/dwi or other charge while still in school?

these are questions that the members of allnurses.com cannot answer. the only reliable source of information is your state board of nursing.
