scabies misdiagnoses??

I am a 3 week nursing student, and I am curious about a diagnoses given to my son.

He is an 11 year old and started to get bump and itchiness in his foot. The foot got infected. Doctor termed it as a cellulitis..I put him on antibiotics, and then he gets the bumps all over his body with intense itchiness. Doctor then said it was scabies..?? Could this be?? Isn't if contagious?? WE never got it>>

He is finally getting better, slowly. The underside of his foot looks very verywith a yellow hue to it..
