Saunders questions are they challenging enough?

Published

I have heard many reports about Saunders Q & A's, I have the comprehensive study guide with about 2000 questions on CD-ROM. I also have the small Kaplan book that has about 600 Q & A. I started with Kaplan first and got 46% on the diagnostic test. Since then I have taken the Saunders assessment test and got a 68%. I was just wondering if the Kaplan questions are more difficult or maybe I have improved. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I test on June 21 and want to maximum the use of the most challenging material.

The Saunder's book was a NCLEX book we had to buy for school. However my nursing instructor said it was a waste of money because it was not even close to being hard enough. So I never used it. I do see a lot of people liking it though... For me though. Having my instructor say it wasn;t hard enough if we wanted to pass boards I made the decision to not even look at it.

I tried both Kaplan and Saunders for the first two weeks; however, I like Kaplan more so I focus mainly on Kaplan since their questions and answers require more critical thinking for me.... It depends on whichever source you feel more comfortable. Some of my classmates prefer Saunders over Kaplan and vice versa. I personallly like Kaplan, especially, I develop my critical thinking skills through their question trainers. Wish you the best!!

My opinion is that Saunders questions are not as challenging as the NCLEX, however, it's a good study guide for reviewing content. It can't hurt to do Saunders, but I would definitely recommend supplementing it with a guide that utilizes the application level of questioning as Kaplan and others do.
