Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I know there have been a few threads that have asked this question, but I feel that it may be helpful to us that have not taken the test and are studying for it to have all this info in one place.. What scores have you averaged when taking these practice tests and did you pass the NCLEX?

Thanks for posting this thread, I would love to know the answer as well. Can anyone help:o

When I was prepping for NCLEX I used all of them. Mosby and Lippincott are excellent study tools for nursing school exams but when it comes to prepping for NCLEX the best ones are Kaplan and Saunders. Saunders is better than Kaplan if you really want to sharpen your knowledge of nursing content, but Kaplan is better than Saunders if you really want to learn the strategy for selecting the 'best' of 4 correct answers. I highly recommend both.

Thanks Tony! Would you mind telling us what scores you were averaging on those tests??

I did ok with the Saunders questions, scored in the high 80s and mostly 90s in terms of percentage. At first I was not passing any of the Kaplan tests, which was very frustrating. Every time I went back and read the rationales for the questions I got wrong I could kick myself for not paying close enough attention to the multiple choice options. My worst thing at the time was prioritization questions. But I kept on reading the rationales and strategies and doing more questions until I got to be pretty darned good at them. Then I began to pass the tests. This is what I like about the Kaplan question bank: the software interface is almost identical to the actual NCLEX, and the questions were very close to the ones I got when I did boards---and thank God, because most of the questions on my NCLEX test were prioritization questions.
