Hi

I have been living on the east coast of FL for 12 years...mainly the Vero Beach area. I have seen a job posting that interests me for Sarasota Memorial. Has anyone worked there? I would like any info about the hospital...good, bad & ugly. I would also like some info about the area, such as good/affordable places to live etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi New-

I live in the Tampa Bay area north of Sarasota. I will say, Sarasota has gotten pricey to live. Not necessarily for food and things like that, those are consistantly affordable, but housing can be pricey depending upon other expenditures like car payment, student loans. If you don't have any of those debts, as a nurse, you'll be fine. I occasionally work with Sarasota Memorial with transferring pediatric patients to my hospital (All Childrens) here in St. Pete and have had mostly positive experiences and I think that even some of our pediatric physicians work down there at that hospital too. So that tells me (in my mind) that it can't be too bad because we're willing to work with them in that manner. As far as bene's and things of that nature, I can only refer you to their HR....but all in all, my impression is good. The living is getting expensive and I wish you much luck!

I had the opportunity to work at SMH for a while before leaving to go to nursing school. It is a nice hospital to work with and the nurse-to-patient ratio is better than many (1:5 day and 1:6 at night on the med/surg floor).

But it is true that the cost of living is getting out of control.

What job posting were you looking at? Just curious.
