Hi,
For anyone who lives in the San Jose, California area could you please tell me what hospitals are good hospitals for a new grad to work at. Basically I want to know about the hospitals where the staff wants to see you succeed, supports new grads, and has good benefits:)
Thanks

Thank you for the responses. I have been under the impression that most places in the bay area have a similar starting salary, between 31-33 for a new hire before diffs. Is this true? Or are theses rates only in san francisco or san jose? Does Oakland, Daly city, Palo Alto etc. pay in the same range?

Well, my $0.02 is this:
I was born and raised in San Jose (though I currently reside in Sunnyvale). I also went to Good Sam - I was born there and the people were also really kind. i was a patient there, not a nurse (I am not currently a nurse, but on my way) but the people seemed like they would be good to work with.
I worked at Lucile Packard/Stanford and I agree...they are both GREAT hospitals, very friendly, clean, and organized--very caring nurses too.
My boyfriend's mother had surgery at El Camino...I have heard nothing but pleasant things about that place--when we went to visit her the people were so nice! Seemed "work-friendly" too.
I used to live near Valley Med. (thank god, no longer--not the best area, but didn't know that when I moved there). I never went in there, though so I can't really comment on them.
Lastly, I have heard NOTHING but horror stories about Kaiser. I have made a point to stay far and clear from Kaiser. However, again, I have never been there myself, so I cannot really judge them--I am simply going off the stories that I have heard form family & friends.
I don’t know that my 2 cents will be of any worth b/c I am not a nurse, but I thought I would give you my perspective on the environment at those hospitals, anyway, since I have some of experience with them.
Hope any of this helps and Good Luck! =)
