Santa Ana, Palomar College, Rio Hondo ADN Spring 2014

Nursing Students School Programs

Has anyone applied for these schools for Spring 2014? I've been looking for recent threads, but haven't found any so I decided to start one :) It's a tough road to RN, so maybe we can all go through this together!

Also, anyone know how Rio Hondo point system works? There's nothing on their website that says how they add up points. Just wondering where I stand.

Ohoh, and I also applied to Pasadena City as well as Cypress College, but there are already threads for those. But we can talk about them here as well :)

Also, jeli42, any advice before starting the program? :)

Yes! Don't ever cram. Lol. When I study ahead of time I get A's. Yes, it is possible guys! Lol. I crammed for one test and got a C. No bueno. I would recommend going over Anatomy and Physiology if you get a chance. It'll help you out a lot where you'll understand some of the pathophysiology of the disease process. I would also recommend looking at test taking strategies. This is where a lot of people fail. In nursing, there are multiple answers that may be right but there is always a better answer. It's not straight forward like your pre-req classes were. You actually have to think. Haha. Anyhow, good luck!!

In my class, no one failed for ADN 151. It is very intense though. I think people start failing later on. A girl I knew from last semester didn't make it this semester :/ I'm in my first real semester of Med Surg which is technically the second semester. The first semester is just a warm up (pre-nursing) but it's intense during the summer because of the short time frame. Does that make sense? Rio Hondo does it differently than other schools but I like it because slowly transitions you.

If I were you, I would take it in the Spring. If I could, that's what I would've done but I wasn't done with my pre-reqs so I couldn't apply until Summer. Plus, who wants to be stressed in Summer? I think Spring is cake compared to Summer. The only benefit is you'll be use to the intensity and will be ready for the Fall.

He's understand however I need to wait till summer for financial reasons- now I'm nervous!

Also what is the tuition cost?

I got an email from PCC stating im an alternate. Does anyone know how many usually go on the alternate list or what my chances are?
