Hi!
We are planning a move to a warmer climate when I finish my RN. Have heard many good things about San Antonio!
We are "scouting" areas to move to and have heard good things about San Antonio.
Any suggestions as to a good area of town? A safe place to raise kids? School system good?
We do not want busy, crazy areas- we much prefer the quiet burbs. I don't mind a short commute.
Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated!!!
Thanks~!
Brenda :)

I think almost anything on the north side of town will be good. It depends on how much you want to spend. I don't live in SA anymore but if I were to move back, I would probably look over by Clark High School. It is a pretty good area and not too far from the medical center. Maybe others can help you on this because it has been a while since I lived there but I was born and raised in SA and I always liked it.

I lived in San Antonio as a teenager and now live in Kerrville, which is about an hour away. I have to agree with labcat01 - the north side of town is one of the nicest parts of town with some of the best schools. If you don't mind a small commute I would also suggest Boerne (about 20-25 min drive), it is a small town community but growing fast. Also, look into Helotes. They have good schools and the drive into town is 10-15 min. tops! The surroundings are amazingly beautiful in the Hill Country.

Definitely like the others have said, north side of town is nice. Others can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe NE side is a little pricier. Helotes and Boerne are pretty nice too. Country atmosphere, not too bad of a commute into town. I live on the NW side of town, and my kids are in NISD, and so far, no complaints. Hubby and I are looking for a place to buy, and we're eyeing a new community not too far from us, still within SA but not within city limits (no city taxes!!!!).
Good luck on your search.
City taxes?
Are the taxes different for the burbs?
San Antonio is a bit different then other cities in that it really doesn't have suburbs (like you see in Houston). You can be inside the city limits and be in a "suburb". You will be paying city takes unless you live in an unincorporated area outside the city limits (say outside Loop 1604). Does that make sense??

Love San Antonio and yes the north side is your best bet. You must be ready for the traffic tho' due to the crazy development going on. Everytime I go back, it looks like a different town.
Borne, New braunfels, live oak, sea world area are all excellent.
I think they're are making 281 a toll road to reduce congestion from the north.

I live in San Antonio (moved here a year ago from Houston) and will have to agree with the others. Anywhere North, Northwest or Northeast is nice. These areas also tend to be pricy, but there are some nice burbs with reasonable prices on houses. We are building a home in the Smithson Valley area which is close to Bulverde, TX.
Good luck!
