I have applied to Samuel Merritt's ABSN program for a fall '09 start (SF branch) and am wondering if anyone else who is either in the program or has applied does not feel like their online Patho and Pharm classes have adequately prepared them for entering nursing school. I got an "A" in Pharm and a "B" in Patho and don't feel like I have learned anything! I live in the Bay Area but am considering moving to DC to go to Georgetown University's 2nd degree program, even if I get in to SM because it requires you to take these classes again. Is this crazy or realistic? Help! Thanks!
lunaflaura,
I can speak from my experience at San Mateo campus that you will have to drive. A lot of clinical rotations were 3-11p (you probably wont get night shift unless it's for your preceptorship). You may be able to set up a carpool with classmates, but having a car will be less stress for you in the end.
I am not sure what clinical sites the SF campus currently uses, but they have used Marin General, Kaiser Santa Clara, Lucille Packard, Mills-Peninsula, and Children's Oakland in the past.
Hi all! I agree. I'm freaking out here. I'm going crazy waiting, waiting, waiting. Everyday, waiting for SM to contact me. I've e-mailed the admissions director so many times that I'm worried they think I'm crazy (although she's been so nice and understanding). Good luck and keep on keeping your fingers crossed! (I am!)
Nope, she didn't mention any thing like that. (So I sent a follow up e-mail, but it was mid-Friday, therefore likely too late in the day. I'm sure we'll all be updated at the same time. I'm just hoping that the July 4th deadline is still in place. I'll post an update though if I hear anything.
Also, that the rejection letters have been mailed out. And the waitlist letters have not been mailed out. So if you got something in the mail now, or at the end of the week.. go get drunk first then open. If you received nothing, by next week... you probably got waitlisted. And well, those that received a call: [DANCE--it's supposed to be a dude dancing..but he just looks drunk]
Ok guys... calls were made today. That's all I know. I didn't get one... but on another forum someone got a waitlist call (#4 spot) and one got an acceptance. There are now 38 spots, not 48. I don't know if the calls will continue throughout the week. I will definitely post if I hear anything at all.
This is the link to the other forum that some of us are receiving news from and sharing with other hopeful students!

I too am on pins & needles waiting for (hopefully) an acceptance call for SF fall 09! Any day now!!! Does anyone know if when we have clinical, do we have to commute to different hospitals around the Bay Area? My car is about to die and I am trying to decide if I should get a new (used) one or if I'll be able to use public transportation around SF. Night shift??? Not sure what to do, any advice about clinical locations for the SF cohort would be helpful. Thank you & good luck to everyone!
