samuel Merritt absn Sacramento vs. sac state

Published

Hi! I am considering the absn Samuel Merritt program and sac state. Both schools have different requirements, so I am trying to decide which avenue to pursue. I am a mom to 3 boys (6, 3, 15 mo.). I like the draw of a 1-year program, but want to see my children! Can anyone provide feedback of what a typical weekly schedule is like for either program. I wouldn't be working in the program, but want to know if I will actually get to see and spend time with my children or if it is just that crazy intense. Also, my husband travels a little for work, so is there any accommodation to clinical or you get what you get?

Thank you to anyone that takes time to respond!

I can't comment on those two schools specifically, but I too, was choosing between Samuel Merritt ABSN and a Cal State and I chose a Cal State. I honestly don't see the point of rushing through and spending $$$$ to do so. Going through this the traditional way is plenty fast and I have a tiny bit of time with my kids (but still not enough).

Both schools have good reputations, so at least you're set in that regard!

Thank you for your feedback! I am not sure how far you are into your studies at cal state, but would you mind describing a typical week?

I'm not at Sac State, so I'm sure it's totally different, but I'm in my first year and it's basically (right now) at school 3 days/week and clinicals 2 days/week. And lots of little things due all the time that you don't get graded on, but that you have to turn in or you fail. Overall, I would say I'm enjoying nursing school, but I will admit that I feel a great deal of stress trying to fit everything in. My academic standards have been lowered and my parenting standards have been lowered. :-)

Well as parents we all try to overachieve and are our harshest critics! I am sure you are balancing everything perfectly. Congrats on getting into nursing school!!!!

I work at Kaiser SF and I can tell you that it seems like we have more SMU and USF students than anyone else.
