I'm applying for a nurse extern position and one of the sample questions given with the packet is: If you were to observe other staff verbally breaching a patient's confidentiality, what would you do?
I'm wondering what the best response would be to this question. I'm assuming pointing it out to them and then maybe bringing it up to management but I'm just not sure.
I would especially appreciate feedback from anyone in a management/hiring position.
Thanks so much.

get them to stop asap, then report it like a good narc (they all want us to tattle). I think it would be preferable to chime in and get all the dirty details, though!

As a new student, we learned that we must report it, doing nothing is just as bad as doing it.
I know I should do something, it's just exactly what to do that I want to be sure of. Thanks for the help.

I would ask in the interview what is the chain of command or hyarchy in the facility. They didn't give enough info. Is this a staff member under you, or over you? If you are over that staff member, you should approach them. If they are a staff member in a different dept, that is under a whole different mangagement team, they you go to that management team member. (i.e. you are nursing, and it was someone from registration) Our hospital is big on the whole organizational flow chart.
