Salem State University accelerated nursing summer 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey guys! I applied for Salem's accelerated program for the Summer 2017 start. We should be hearing back sometime next month. Just looking to see who else applied and more about you guys. Hope to hear from you!

I just looked today and Im accepted!

Congrats! I logged into navigator today and my status changed to accepted! I was surprised but an very excited! I look forward to meeting all of you!

Anyone have an application that says "No status yet"? I figure that I was rejected but I'd like to know

I emailed admissions to see what number on the waitlist I was, and Jackie said, "we don't rank our waitlist that way, we'll let you know if space becomes available." Every time I have reached out for any information they continue to keep me in the dark. I have not been impressed with their communications at all.

Current Salem State accelerated students - I was accepted to the program and am wondering if you could shed a little light on clinical placements/your overall class/clinical schedule. I'll be relocating from Rhode Island and am trying to decide if it's totally necessary that I live close to Salem or if I could be a little closer to the heart of Boston. Are you in school 5 days a week typically?

Hi everyone! I was accepted and will be attending the program. Is there is a Facebook page where everyone could communicate?

Yeah that would be awesome, I have so many questions and am curious about a lot. I know orientation is on the 8th but I would love to talk to current students and other people recently accepted!

Hi there,

I am in the ABSN cohort graduating this August - happy to shed some light.

The school recognizes that students in this program are commuters, and usually tries to limit the number of days on campus by making classes once or twice a week at most in blocks of 2-4 hours per class. I think the max number of days we have had to be on campus per week is this semester, and we are there 3 days/week. People in our program live as close as right in Salem, but we have commuters from Boston, south shore, the Merrimack Valley, and so on.

Clinicals could really be anywhere. Off the top of my head - we have had groups in Winchester, Lawrence, Beverly, Salem, Boston, Lynn, and Tewksbury. You don't get a choice as to your clinical locations/times, the school will place you based on what is available.

Is it absolutely necessary to live in Salem? No. I can't imagine you would be in school 5 days a week, we never were. Having said that, it certainly would not be a detriment to live in Salem if you are relocating anyway, as you are guaranteed to be there for at least some portion of your week. There have been a few clinicals on the north shore as well. Closer to Boston still wouldn't be a bad commute, usually the classes are at off-hours anyway in terms of commuting due to classroom space.

Honestly, Salem is difficult to get to from just about anywhere but Salem. My advice is to get a digital recorder and (with permission!) record the lectures so that you can listen in the car. Makes the commuting time feel more productive and therefore less painful :)

Congrats on your acceptance and good luck.

I was just accepted and would love to hear your thoughts on the previous person in your cohort who responded about the quality of the program. Can you share any sentiment with that post on this thread?

Thanks for your thoughtful response, amo1190!! Very much appreciated.

I have heard from them. Was accepted.

Thanx @ amo1190. Your words are encouraging.
