Sacramento City College vs. American River College ADNs?

U.S.A. California

Hi Everyone,

I have been fortunate enough to be selected for both American River College ADN AND Sacramento City College ADN programs. Now that I have a choice, I would really like to go to the school that has a higher *STUDENT* ranking for their ADN program. I have read the college reviews and have seen the statistics each nursing school provides, but I would like to hear from the alumni what they think. Can any ARC or SCC Alumni give me their thoughts on the ADN program they attended? Good or bad... I would love to hear it. Thank you in advance!

BookNerdSN, I was selected as an alternate for SCC fall semester. I have not been able to find any info/stats to know my chances. They did not issue an alternate number or any explanation regarding being an alternate besides that it does not guarantee a spot in program and if not selected one has to reapply the following semester. Can you tell me how many "alternate spots" the SCC ADN program issues and do you have any idea how many alternates were selected last semester? Thank you for any info.

Congrats Jojag79!!

Unfortunately I have no idea how many alternates are admitted or how many are on the "list." If it helps, I do remember 2 or 3 alternates (probably the ones highest on the list) in class the first week, maybe in case someone dropped? No one dropped so they were not given a seat but they were allowed the chance.

I am surprised you have to reapply! Maybe it's because they only select once a year now, because I know in the past at SCC (and currently at ARC) if you were an alternate for one semester and didn't get selected, you were automatically in the following semester.

I wish I could be more of a help!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

...could you please clarify something for me as I thought only SCC did applications for fall & spring simultaneously... and ARC did only one semester at a time (thus, ARC would only be accepting for fall & SCC would be accepting for fall & spring. Do you have the colleges reversed? Because ARC sent me a message saying I was not selected for fall, but could reapply for spring 2015. I am new to applying at losrios though, so correct me if I am wrong... I am just trying to understand the process better. Thank you & congrats again

Hi Jojag79. Looks like this question was never answered. SCC does select their ADN students once a year in the spring semester for the following academic year (Fall & Spring). ARC selects them twice a year. At ARC they have a 'selected' list, an 'alternate' list (which guarantees you a seat in the following semesters' class), and a 'please reapply' list. Every school is different... ARC, SCC and CSU-Sac all have different application timelines and qualifications. I was accepted to SCC for Fall '14 but turned it down. I was alternate status at ARC for Fall '14 so I'm guaranteed a spot for Spring '15 at ARC. I hope that answered your questions. :-)

I'm currently attending CSU-Sac as a Junior... finishing up my undergrad coursework. I have applied to the CSUS Nursing program for Spring '15 but won't find out if I got in until the end of November. It's a terrible waiting game and everywhere is extremely competitive now. Hang in there and just make sure you keep the best GPA you can and *VOLUNTEER* at Sutter or Dignity Health hospitals! :)
