Sac State/Chico Spring 09

U.S.A. California

Hey is anyone appling to Sacramento state or chico state for the spring of 09? I also applied to Humboldt, Long Beach, Freno, San Bernardino, and Stansilaus. Anyone apply to any other these schools either? Just wondering if anyone had applied what their gpa, teas score, and optional criteria were. I have a 3.9 GPA for pre-reqs, 3.8 GPA overall, 89.4% on my Teas, and work/volunteer exp. How about anyone else?

do you have to take GE classes along with nursing classes? I already have 3 associates degree's from a cc, but I think I read that most of the state colleges require some upper division classes. If I need to take GE classes along with my nursing classes, 2 yr program might be tougher. Does anyone know what classes you need to take in addition to the nursing classes, or does it depend on the college?

My wife and I went to Humboldt State about 10 years ago. She was a RN student then, and she had to take some upper division fluff even though her prereq's were done. Humboldt, Sac, and Chico are all CSU's. I'm just shooting from the hip, but I think there's probably a couple classes to work in. Just take 'em over the summer, you'll be fine!

At Sac State you might have to take a writing intensive course. I know in order to graduate from there you have to take that course there.

The course I took was upper division and I want to say they are all upper divison courses.

My boyfriend graduated from CSUS three years ago from their nursing program and he said not only do they [the instructors] not spoon feed you, but they hide the spoon too! :uhoh21:

i am scared out of my mind about "bonding". I never bonded with people in my pre-req classes for some reason. I wonder if I come off as a "know-it-all" which is funny because most students in this field are know-it-alls!

....

Anyways, I really need to get down this whole female bonding thing!

-You will discover immediately that there is little hand-holding as far as organizing your schedule and getting every assignment done correctly and in on time. It is overwhelming and complicated from the beginning. You have to have a system of organization. You also have to 'bond' with fellow students (at least one or two) because you won't survive very well on your own. There is too much information being bombarded at you all the time, with your classmates you're less likely to miss something important!

well if you are going to sac state nursing program in the spring, if we get in that is, then I'll bond with you! Gonna need a good support system to get through those 2 long years. :p

I wish you all the best of luck getting into the program. In regards to the 'bonding', it was really natural to get to know a few people right away who happened to be sitting beside me during the first lectures of the program. I found that nursing students are all in the same league, we're high achievers intellectually, and we are strongly motivated to do well. It's a relief really, to be around students who have the same high standards you do. Just picture the top 3 students in your most difficult prereq classes and then multiply them into an entire room of 60-70 of them!

Also, group projects are big in the program. I've never liked group projects, but now I'm used to them. So right away you're sort of 'pushed' to get to know one another in that sense. Also, because you see the same faces every class, every semester, you feel comfortable with anyone you group up with. In our graduating class at least, there is a strong sense of camaraderie amongst all of us, and we all support and look after one another. I hope you end up with the same. I've heard its not always this way. Some people in some classes see each other as competition. That's really unfortunate! I hope you end up with a great class like I did!

Hello Everyone,

I recently found out that I will be part of the Spring 09 CSUS Nursing Program. Some of these comments on here that I have read make the program look very intimidating. Some of you have commented that finding a group of students to study with and so forth is a good idea. I am part of a study group for a Pharmacology class I am currently taking at a different school, and it is definitely a life saver. I hope that this website allows me to get to know a few of you attending the Sac State Spring 09 program prior to the start. I am at the moment looking for some place to call home by Sac State. I will be there this Wednesday, any suggestions? Which hospitals does Sac State utilize for the clinicals? I am still waiting for them to enroll me in classes. Does anyone have any idea of what the schedule might look like? I appreciate the help.

are you on another forum website for military with the same name? (your bf is currently over right now right?) i remember a name like yours. anyways im on the alternate list for csus so maybe ill see you there. my BF is an army nurse and is over in iraq right now. hah and hes alumni of csus' nursing program too..... too many connections...

Sorry about the confusion, I wish that the site would show more than age, or maybe I just chose the wrong option. But I can't have a boyfriend in the military. Im just joking around, I'm actually a guy. Sorry about the confusion. What number alternate are you on the list? Do you live in Sacramento currently? What would be the most desirable area to live in around Sac State?

oh its okay i just saw someone with that name. hehehe yes it would be quite hard for you to have a bf!

For locations well it depends on what you want, I suggest downtown or Arden/Arcade area for school. Anything close to CSUS. Try Arden area because some pockets can be inexpensive for rent. I dont know if cash is an issue for rent but downtown can be pricey depending on where you live and I am unsure how the traffic is getting to school in the morning. Or you can try south of HWY 50 off 65th.

Im 23 on the alt but theyre at 15 as of today. Im keeping my fingers crossed. Also one gal on here was like 18/19 and she says shes going to humboldt so i kindve hope she still does hehe then i have a better chance at getting in.... i hope...

there are three area hospitals to choose from for clinicals. there is uc davis med center, sutter general, and the one thats a little far, roseville sutter. has anyone heard anything about these clinical sites? which one is better than others? which one do you learn more at? which one is preferred? any input would help, thanks.

I volunteered at sutter roseville in the ER and I really liked it. This is a much newer hospital that has just added a rehabilitation building, a nicu, and expanded its ER. I really like this hospital and had I of gotten into Sac state I would have chosen this hospital to do my clinicals. I really think it is one of the nicer hospitals, but then again I have never been to the other two so I dont have much to compare it to.
