150% Rule?

Published

Hi all! I'm really looking forward to going back to college in the Spring to start taking classes which will fulfill the remaining pre-req requirements for the nursing program. I already have a BBA in Accounting, and the first step to getting that was attending this same school for a transfer AS in Business Administration.

Now that I'm re-enrolling for the nursing program (it's two years long and will net me an ADN), I'm worried about being smacked by the 150% rule, which I'd honestly never even heard of until last night when I was browsing around the site.

I had to take out loans to get the first degrees, but I'm nowhere near the cap on student loans. I don't expect more free money to go to school. I know I've had my share of Pell Grants and whatnot already. However, I definitely do need student loans in order to make this happen, and I'm worried that they're going to cut me off at 90 hours and not give me any more. The last thing I want happening is that I get through half of the program and am unable to finish the rest because they cut me off =/.

I read that most schools have an appeal process. That's a good thing, since when I went to this college, I was quite responsible. Never dropped a class (though I ended up dropping a lot at my four year school for various reasons -- I'm unsure whether that'll be held against me), enrolled while I was still in high school and got a lot of people on my side by doing so well when I was still technically a Senior in High School, I worked in their Academic Assistance Center as a tutor for my peers, and my graduating GPA was 3.8.

However, one of the women on the board for the appeals process (We will call her "J" to help with pronoun confusion) is dating my father, who is entangled in a very messy divorce with my mother, essentially because he cheated on her to be with J and has lied about it the entire time, claiming that they are roommates even though he lives in a 2 bedroom apartment and my younger brother has his own room *facepalm*. I REALLY don't want to have to go the route of doing the appeals process and having her be the one who reviews my case.

Any advice would be appreciated!
