RPN to RN @ Seneca or George Brown?

Published

Currently deciding between Seneca RPN program or GBC RPN program.

Which one will be easiest bridging route to RN?

I hear after 2 semesters @ Seneca's RPN i can attempt to transfer to York's BScN, can any one confirm?

(according to http://www.senecac.on.ca/degreetransfer/guide/program.html?code=PND)

Thanks.

Hi,

I haven't called the school, so I'm not 100% sure. I'm assuming you can only because McMaster is collaborated with Conestoga, but they offer the 3 year program to other students. You probably can't transfer after the first two years, but I assume you can after you graduate (based on what I've read so far :S). Why do you want to go to york anyway? The nursing program at Ryerson and McMaster seem to have a better reputation. I hear so many good things about the nursing program at Ryerson and McMaster. I never heard anyone speak highly of the nursing program at York. Most people don't even know they have a nursing program. Lots of people make fun of Ryerson, but it's respected for the Nursing and Journalism program. Until you get your answer, I seriously suggest you just try your best to keep your GPA as high as possible.

McMaster is collaborated with Mohawk. I go there. At McMaster's Health Sciences building, it's collaborated with Mohawk. It's actually called the Mohawk-McMaster Institute for Applied Health Sciences. I didn't know we were collaborated with Conestoga as well. Always finding out somthing new, lol.

Thanks for all the info. Does anybody know about bridging program at Centennial?? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

I personally don't know anything about centennial college. However, i'll post this info anyway which you probably know from the internet for anyone else who is wondering.

Students who successfully complete a Practical Nursing diploma program or Practical Nursing program with evidence of upgrading and also with a 3.0 GPA will be eligible to enroll in the two-semester bridging program. Those students who graduate with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will be eligible to apply to Ryerson's two-year degree completion program. This means that the student could progress through a PN program to achieve baccalaureate preparation in a total of five years. The academic pathway would be... two years college, one year bridging at Centennial College, and two years at the University compared with two years college and four years at the university BScN program. This allows one full year PLAR (prior learning assessment and recognition) for the PN and internationally-educated nurse.

So basically, 5 years since the 1 year bridging program @ Centennial allows you to apply to the 2 year ryerson program. VS. You finishing 2 years RPN then applying directly to University = 2 years college + 4 years BScN = 6 years = bad.

From where i see it, if you start in a RPN program, in the end you will get a BScN degree in 5 years.

I still don't know about York though.

Hi Amo,

Someone that goes to Seneca College told me that they have to take a bridging program too. I think it's offered at York, but I'm not too sure.

York does not have a RPN - RN Bridging program, the only ones i know in ON are:

1. Centennial College-->Ryerson RN

2. Mohawk-->McMaster RN

3. *George Brown RPN --> Ryerson RN

Sorry that's just what I was told. All I know for sure is that you don't have to bridge to go to Mcmaster because my friend didn't. She also did not get her practical nursing diploma at mohawk. Good luck wherever you end up.

I have just gotten accepted into the rpn to rn program at centennial/ryerson. Has anyone done the program there ? or have also been accepted also for 2011

Hi Laurafromontario,

I have been accepted in centennial rpn program for fall 2011. I am interested in bridging to RN after my graduation. Congrats in being accepted to ryerson. Are you graduate of Centennial rpn. Do you have to be centennial graduate to do bridging from centennial. What is the requirement for getting into bridging program in centennial and what is the minimum you need to get admitted into Ryerson there after.

I would really appreciate for your help.:confused:

@Laurafromontario; @ magnesium123

I have also applied to the rpn to rn program at centennial/ryerson , but haven't heard back from them yet. My gpa is above the minimum. I'm nervous

Hi Magnesium123

I graduated from Mohawk college RPN program in 2009, I applied immediately to the bridge programs in ontario and was accepted to uoit and centennial. I was enrolled at uoit but could not afford to move and the program was ****** there. But I am commited to going to centennial :-) I cant wait. Are you from the toronto area?

Broccli the first time I heard from centennial was at the end of march last year and i got into the flex program. This year I got into the full time one for fall 2011 I am for sure going i cant wait . I hope you hear from them asap we might be in some classes together :-)

Hey Laurafromontario I'm interested in only doing flex because I wanna work. I'm hoping I hear before the end of March, so that I know wither or not to apply to UOIT because the OUCAS is EXPENSIVE. I've heard bad news from people who did the centennial/ryerson program. I applied before the equal consideration date and I haven't received any rejection letters from centennial or any of the schools(Mowhak & Constega) that I applied to.....so maybe that's good news?....I don't know.I just need to know. I'm thinking of calling to find out the status of my application. How did you find UOIT?
