Specialties CRNA

Hello future SRNA's ... I've been reading some of the "nervous" posts and was hoping everyone would say where they'll be this fall. Hopefully we can keep in touch throughout the next 2.5 years, and offer support when needed!

I'll be at UNC Charlotte, and will be moving there in about 2 months! Who's next? ... ;)

HU_Nurse, I think you meant to post in an undergrad nursing forum...this is for students entering nurse anesthesia this fall.

How competitive is it to apply to Rush? If you don't mind what was your GPA, GRE and etc..

Thanks a bunch

Rush University, Sep. 2006!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

You're gonna have a great time at Rush...I'm in the class ahead of you, starting residency this June. Let me know if you need any help with anything and I'll do the best I can to assist. I took a lot of classes with a couple of your classmates...come to think of it, a lot of you were in the neuroanatomy/neurophysiology course with me last quarter. Anyway, good luck and I'll see you at school...

I think somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 applicants (possibly even more) per year with a class size around 20-24. My undergrad GPA was just slightly above average when compared with the whole group but my GRE was well above average, though. I think they also took into consideration that I paid for my entire undergrad eduction (at a private school) without loans or parental assistance (I used to referee a LOT of ice hockey in college). You have to remember, though, that the school is looking for the whole package--not just a package of excellent grades. I know of many people who applied with much better GPAs than mine and similar GREs that didn't get accepted. They look for people who are driven, goal-orientated, and serious about the profession. I think they also look for things not easily tested for--intensity, a stick-to-it mentality, leadership, interest in not only the clinical end of the profession but other aspects of the nurse anesthetist (i.e. politico-legal aspects), personality, and interpersonal skills. They also test your concrete clinical skills as part of the interview process where you are given several clinical problem scenarios...then you gave your diagnosis and treatment (I think most programs include this as part of the interview process). Remember, sell yourself as unique from the many other candidates who most likely have similar credentials and grades...

Kaiser! And, I can't wait to be done with Shi Shi and doo doo! Not to mention the other joys of the emergency department.

I'm working on a list "50 things I hate about the ER!" This way, when I am in the thick of the stressors of school, I can remind myself some of the reasons I am there!!!
