I'm new to these boards but I'm in the process of writing an admission essay on "roles and functions of a professional nurse." I could really use some help....first I'm alittle confused as to what is the difference between role and function (I guess I see them both as almost the same thing.) I have the very basic most common ideas already....pt. advocate, leader and teaching both pt and family. I guess I could just use some ideas and advice because we all know how many applications each college receives and I want mine to be really great! Thank you all so much for any comments you have for me.

Function is the same as purpose. What is the purpose of a nurse?
Roles are the ways we carry out our functions. The roles you mentioned are all appropriate.
One clue is that nurses should always be the patient advocate.
Thanks Purplemania for your help....I was wondering if a function would be
"to help a patient achieve the highest quality of care and independence possible?" Thanks for all your help.
