Hello Everyone!
I am going to try to "rekindle" an old flame here. The debate between getting your RN vs RRT.
Currently, I am a BSN student. I enjoy school for the most part, and have learned more in 2 semesters than I have in years previous combined haha. However, my neighbor is a flight RRT, and says their field is growing and in need, like the nursing field is. So, I have researched what exactly a RRT does and I'm intrigued. From my understanding, a RRT is a "floater" throughout the hospital, going from administering breathing treatments, to responding to codes, and my favorite, performing intubation. They are not tied down to a floor, and seem to gain more respect from higher authorities for some reason. And I understand that it is a common response that "RRT is a dead end career", however after recieveing a bachelors in it, one can perform ECMO or even attend perfusionist schooling apparently. (PA school is also an option)
So beside the initial pay differences, what's your guy's opinion on a bachelors in RRT vs a BSN?
I think I would personally enjoy RT more, but I want what is best for me and my family concerning finances and eventual advancement.
Thanks!
