anybody have a clue what a registered nurse would do in a urology clinic? i have never worked in a clinic and i am curious.

I only know from being a patient. They do a lot of bladder ultrasounds! That's all I know...my doctor did my physical exam...

I work as an RN for a busy urology practice. We see patients who have incontinence, urinary retention kidney stones, urinary problems, UTIs, prostate cancer, BPH, low testosterone/impotence, males with fertility problems, problems related to male reproductive system, etc. We take patients back to the room and go over their medical history/vitals. A lot of the time we will take a urine specimen and run a UA/Urine culture or send out for urine cytology. We draw a lot of blood for PSA, testosterone, CBC, CMP, and BMP. I haven't inserted too many catheters, the doctors tend to do that. Also we assist the doctor with in office procedures such as cystoscopy, vasectomy, prostate biopsy, suprapubic catheter change, and urethral stretching. Nurses give urodynamics testing and BCG treatment for bladder cancer. Our phones are always ringing from the patients who have questions for us, want test results or advice. It's a pretty interesting job and there is a lot to learn. Hope this helped!
