RN Student- Moving to FL after Graduation

Nurses Career Support

Published

I'm starting my senior year of nursing this September and will complete it in June of 2006. I currently live in Upstate New York and will not stay here once I graduate. I have family in Florida, so I'd like to find a place to work near Palm Bay/Melbourne or possibly Jacksonville. I'd also like my 2 year old daughter to be close to my parents.

I currently have my LPN and am working this summer in a Pediatric office full time/Per Diem until Senior year starts. (Then I'll work less hours and concentrate on my studies.) I am attending a Diploma school, but plan on getting my BSN after I move.

I was wondering if any of you have any advice regarding when to begin applying to jobs down south and where the best places are to apply?

Thank you in ADVANCE! :p

Cindy

Cindy,

If you have a computer I would suggest looking up addresses and phone numbers for facilities in the area(s) of Florida where you want to live. Ask for mailings to include applications and facility information. For example St. Petersburg Hospital will mail a complete folder of information with pictures. The internet is as already suggested a very good and instant source of information.

I would also call Hospitals, Nursing Homes, etc and be direct. Ask what their needs are, do they hire graduate RNs, pay scale, shifts available, etc etc. Most places will give you quick up to date information.

Beware of the Florida pay scale though. Quite a bit lower than up North.

Hey, I'll pay your gas down if you throw me in your trunk :chuckle !!!

Good luck!

:rotfl: Well, I'm undecided on where I want to move. Either Seattle or North/South Carolina. I JUST WANT TO MOVE OUT OF INDIANA but I'm not sure which way to go yet. How's that?

I too live in Indiana and want to get out!! I have lived here my entire life, I'm 22, and want to experience someplace new. My boyfriend and I have taken several weekend trips and we are thinking about moving to Chicago. It is a bigger city yet it is still close to our parents. I don't have my nursing degree yet. I have a psych degree and am wondering if it would be better to take my accelerated bsn degree here before I move or if I should wait to get experience in local hospitals once we move.
