RN license endorsement from NY to CA

Published

Anyone here who has been successful with license endorsement from NY to CA?

I'm a 2010 BSN graduate and will be taking my NCLEX RN sometime next month. And i was wondering how long will it take for the processing and will they require you to study again for some refresher course or the NY license is enough? PLease.. really need someone to light up on this topic.. thanks so much!

oops. forgot to add that i'm a foreign graduate.

It depends how long it takes for all your documents to reach BON of CA. As to whether or not you will be granted a CA license, it depends if you meet all the requirements put forth by the BON of CA, including concurrent classes. BON of CA will look to the original country (nursing school) you achieved your education at. It does not matter if you will have achieved a NY license, CA will look at the original education.

Good luck studying for your boards!

The processing times in NY and other states needing certain documentation work and passing of certain English exams will take several months at best, figure a 4-6-8 month period and assuming your school does their processing of your requested documents in a quick timely manner.

But why didn't you just apply into CA versus going thru the endorsement route as there's no guarantee of the license granting from NY to CA, especially with the strict CA concurrency rules (started around Nov. 2011) that has been closing the door to many PH grads and nurses.

Here's just one example: https://allnurses.com/nurse-registration/ca-brn-new-631735.html

and there are many many more discussing this same topic and of several others in the World section, under the "Nurse Registration" tab and would highly suggest to read them.
