RN Inquiry - not sure where to start!?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi guys,

What information/advice can you offer someone who is interested in starting an RN program? I don't know where to start first. I've perused a lot of schools and I'm only getting the basic info. I know I need to complete prerequisites (Algebras, Chemistry's, etc. I did not take these classes during high school) - at least that is my starting point, but I am not sure what to do with this knowledge. Can anyone help?

Hi Ravishinglylow,

What program do you plan on applying for? For example, associates degree RN, bachelor's RN, or second degree accelerated program. Once you know which one then you can see how many pre-req's you need to take for each program and check each schools website for admission info. I'm not sure what you really asking but hope this helps. You can pm me for more info.

Thanks SweetG. I'm actually interested in the Bachelor's RN program. I guess my question is - as far as pre-req's go - I know these need to be taken prior to entering an RN program, but do you know if most schools are partial to having you take those courses within the RN program, or is that something I have to find out on my own and take before applying to an RN program? I've got some pamphlets and such coming to me via mail from various schools, but until then I wanted to see if I could get some info from personal experiences.

I agree with the above poster, narrow down your choices. Not every program is alike and not every program requires the same pre-application requirements.

Once you have picked out the program(s), you will need to literally sit down with an academic counselor (be sure to bring your unofficial transcripts from other colleges and/or high school). The academic counselor can work with you to map out a plan to attend that specific program. Talking to people on the phone will be of no help to you unless he/she has your transcripts to look at in order to give you advice. GL.

^ Thank you very much. :)
