RN to CRNA

Published

Hi everyone,

I just got accepted to a nursing school and I am very excited about it. My ultimate goal is to become a CRNA, I know I am thinking way way ahead! trust me I do. But I still want to find out as much as I can about the road that awaits me.

I understand I need to first have my RN degree and work in an ER for a year before I can apply to a CRNA program, but that is about all I know. Is there anything I can do as an undergrad student to prepare myself better? Also I am not a math genius, but by working hard and practicing a lot I have been able to pass my math classes with good grades, will that be enough?

Thank you!

RN is not a degree, it is a license that you can obtain after obtaining a Diploma, ADN, BSN or (prelicensure) MSN.

CRNA education is the most rigorous MSN math & science curriculum. In order to qualify for admission to a CRNA program you will need a BSN and 2 years of ICU (not ED) experience. There may be programs that accept ADN, but I am not aware of any. In order to get an ICU job, you may need to have a BSN because many hospitals are only hiring BSN grads these days.... you need to check your area.

Best of luck on your educational pathway.
